Established on June 15, 1971, following the merger of two newspapers, L’Orient (founded in Beirut in 1925) and Le Jour (founded in Beirut in 1934), L’Orient-Le Jour is the only French-language daily newspaper in Lebanon. It has provided a platform for the most prestigious thinkers, columnists, writers, and journalists of modern Lebanon. As a standard-bearer of the French-speaking world, its primary mission is to deliver independent and high-quality information to all French speakers connected to Lebanon and the Middle East. Élie Fayad and Émilie Sueur are the editors-in-chief.

Since its inception, L'Orient-Le Jour has upheld democratic values, pluralism, openness to others, and intercultural and interreligious dialogue. The newspaper addresses the issues and challenges of Lebanese and regional current affairs.
